Maps
It was thought that the Japanese had no good maps, this has now been proved wrong by Maurice Christie his father Arthur recovered a book of maps from a dead Japanese officer on the way back from Butterworth after they had set charges. Since the VJ 50th Celebrations in London it has been lodged in the Imperial War Museum.
The intelligence reports that Special Operations Executive had from the Chinese Communists stated, that the Japanese born Malay Planters had supplied them, and that is why they were so confident as to what roads and paths to take as the maps detailed these and which could be used. More importantly they marked where the British Army were.
Special Operations Executive in the Far East started life as operation "Scapula". It was headed by Major Jim Gavin. "PUMA" the mission, was to set up a Special Training School for sabotage and stay behind parties, code number 'STS,101' in Malaya.
