Liberation
15th August 1945 - 1st January 1947
Driver Albert Edward Bowden, T/245938, Royal Army Service Corps. was attached to the 196 Field Ambulance. He was transported with the 18th Division to Singapore where he was captured 15/02/1942.
He was transported on the first train to Thailand 18/06/1942 with the June Mainland Party under Major R.S. Sykes, R.A.S.C., 18th Division. He first worked at Nong Pladuk, Thailand building atapi huts and getting the service yard ready for the following work parties.

When the work parties started arriving in October he was attached to Group 4 01 (G) Work Battalion under Lt-Col. Knights of the 4th Battalion, Royal Norfolk Regiment, 18th Division. They worked in the area around Tha Sao. He then went to Tha Muang in 1944 and later, in mid 1945, went to Pratchai.
After being liberated he was flown to Rangoon and taken to Rangoon Hospital where he passed away.
After three and a half years of hell as a Japanese PoW, surviving Liberation on hope, he did not make it home.
